A filling can treat tooth decay while preventing further damage or tooth loss. Sealing a cavity in the tooth also serves to treat pain or discomfort.
Types of Fillings
There are various types of fillings, including:
Gold Fillings
This type of filling is composed of an alloy of gold, coppers, and other metals. Gold fillings are the most durable and can last up to 20 years.
Silver (Amalgam) Fillings
This filling is composed of various metals, including mercury, tin, and copper. In the case of the back molars, silver fillings may be the best choice. The material is long-lasting as well as durable.
Composite Fillings
This filling is composed of a tooth-colored material made from glass and resin. The aesthetic purpose of a composite filling is notable.
Porcelain Fillings
This type of filling is composed of tooth-colored material made from silicon and oxygen that has been molded into a non-crystalline glass. These types of fillings can help maintain your natural tooth structure.
Filling Procedure
The filling procedure at Premium Dental
strives to be a seamless experience.
Dr. Delgado will walk you through the steps before completing them, but this is the basic procedure:
- A numbing gel is applied to the gums before injecting a local anesthetic into the gum. With a drill or other dental tool, the dentist will remove the problem area of the tooth and then proceed to fill the problem area with a particular filling.
- Finally, the filling will be polished and adjusted to fit the client’s mouth and bite.
How to Know if You Need a Filling
